If you want to travel alone and want to discover the cities you will travel though by yourself, you'll still need to make the train ticket reservations in advance. Tickets get very quickly sold out especially in the summer when so many tourists are travelling along the line Russia - Mongolia - Chine. The line Ulaanbaatar - Beijing is especially busy and reservations need to be done at least 3 months in advance. Just before and after the Naadam festival it is very hard to buy train tickets.

The system "Buy first Gets first" system is of application for the train tickets. Reservations don't really hold. You need to pay for your train ticket to reserve your train ticket. Although tickets were paid for, they will only be issued 1 to 2 weeks before departure.

Once we have the train tickets in our hands, we can send them to you by DHL, deliver them to your hotel or you can pick them up from our offices. In Beijing we however prefer to deliver your train tickets to your hotel as our offices are very busy, especially during the summer period.

Upgrades to Deluxe class are heavily dependent on availability and can only be confirmed earliest 30 days prior to departure. Confirmation in the busy summer months is sometimes only given a week before departure, as government & embassy staff get priority! Occasionally, sole occupancy of a 4-berth cabin is supplied for 2 passengers instead of first class.

* Train #23 departs on Saturday until 26th-May 2007 and is run by Mongolian railways. From 29th
May 2007 the train departs on a Tuesday morning and is run by Chinese railways. During the peak months of July and August an extra service will depart Beijing on a Saturdays (to be confirmed)
morning. Train # 3 travels from Beijing to Moscow, but you might be able to buy a ticket until Ulaanbaatar only. This trains leaves Beijing on Wednesday.

** Train #24 In the summer months there is an extra train on Friday. Train # 4 travels from Moscow to Beijing and stops in Ulaanbaatar. You might get a seat on this train in Ulaanbaatar. Train leaves Ulaanbaatar every Sunday.

***Train nr 3 goes from Beijing to Moscow and stops in Ulaanbaatar. You might be able to get a seat on this train in Ulaanbaatar. The train leaves Ulaanbaatar every Thursday.

+ Trains #363 & #364 have only second class carriages with 4 beds/cabin. It is possible to buy an extra berth each to give two people sole occupancy of a second class compartment.
